When we allow ourselves to feel bitterness and anger for past difficulties, we pollute our current state of mind. I am not suggesting that releasing emotion is bad for you. But to dwell in the hurt and misery of previous experience is a foolish choice to make. If you cannot accept what is happening now, change it. If you cannot change it, you may as well accept it and focus on what you can control!
